Kishor Darda, secretary of the Jawaharlal Darda Education Society, was arrested from Nagpur on Monday in connection with the alleged molestation of students of Yavatmal Public School, which is run by the society. A woman teacher of the school, Tasleem Nasreen, was also booked.
The developments followed violent protests in Yavatmal city over the alleged sexual abuse of primary and kindergarten girl students by two teachers.
The police have arrested the two teachers, Yash Borundia, 35, and Amol Kshirsagar, 32, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Their four-day police custody was extended on Monday by three days.

On Saturday, a day after the allegations surfaced, school principal Jacob Das was arrested under Section 21 of the POCSO Act for not bringing the abuse to the knowledge of the authorities. Darda’s arrest was also made under the same section. He has been remanded in 24-hour police custody.
Yavatmal Public School school is run by the Jawaharlal Darda Education Society, which is named after the father of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda. Kishor Darda is Vijay Darda’s second cousin.
Vijay Darda runs the newspaper group Lokmat. In an editorial in Lokmat, he wrote, “I am also equally anguished over the heinous act by the two teachers…” He also referred to “poisonous politics that seems to have been prevailing in today’s times”.
Yavatmal city witnessed massive protests after 14 parents complained of sexual abuse of their daughters by the two teachers on Friday. The arrest of the two teachers did not pacify the protesters, and thousands took to the streets. On Sunday, protesters clashed with police, 14 people were injured. BJP MP and Union minister Hansraj Ahir camped in the city for two days.
