ON A day the Congress came out in support of writers returning the Sahitya Akademi awards , party MP Shashi Tharoor Thursday took a different line and said writers are dishonouring the recognition.

Tharoor said he support the courage and conviction of the writers, but disagreed with their method of protest. “I strongly support and admire the values, conviction & courage of the writers who have stood for freedom of expression by returning their awards,” he tweeted.

“Still I regret this method of protest since award is recognition by independent body of intellectual, literary, creative or academic merit and should not be confused with the political issues of the day. The political fight must be fought but why dishonour this recognition?” he said.

I don't think any of us have the right to condemn the writers, it is their way of broadcasting their dissent with the system and what's happening in the country. If they can return something that was very dear to them and won after sweat and toil then it points to the intensity of their feelings against what they stand for and their act must be respected. I disagree with Mr Tharoor that our concerns are only political. Our concerns are about national interest and national interest cannot be the prerogative of the political cl, it concerns every citizen. The politician is only the rep of the mes who can make decisions on our behalf but if the decisions are against what the majority wants then the voice of the mes cannot be ignored.

From the views of Shashi Tharoor it is clear now that Congress Party has no role to play in the action of the writers. RSS cannot face the wrath of the writers. It is better to make peace with them, so that their puppet government can survive until 2019.
