STRONG winds played spoilsport for moonlight yoga, conceived as a creative confluence of dance and yoga by Bharatnatyam dancer Suchitra Mitra, as a part of the ongoing yoga festival.

At the Parade Ground, the winds created havoc, as the stage, screens and other arrangements fell apart and the performance had to be cut short.

For the audience too, the evening was a dissapointment, as many had gathered to view a unique showcase.

The inspiration and idea of the evening, Mitra had explained earlier, was to showcase and bring to light how dance like yoga, fulfills the body, mind and soul, and gives one immense peace and satisfaction. Mitra and her students had planned the evening with a line-up of pieces, starting with Ganesh Stuti. Mitra said two young yoga practitioners, alongside the dance, would perform yoga postures for the audience to witness the similarity of the postures in dance and yoga, “except we don’t hold postures in dance, as we do in yoga. But both flow without any inhibitions and barriers,’’ the dancer explained , adding the programme was tough to conceptualise.

This is a theme and subject that she wants to work on in the future and create more performances.
