AAP MLA from Okhla Amanatullah Khan, who has been accused of sexual harassment by his sister-in-law, has announced that he will surrender at the Jamia Nagar police station Sunday.
In an official statement, Khan said Delhi Police “wanted to arrest” him but he could not appear before police as he was busy carrying out fogging operation in his constituency. “I want to tell everyone that police are trying to frame me on false charges and arrest me. I have requested police to give me a few days’ time because the situation in my constituency is worrying. Dengue is widespread here and it is important that I stay in my constituency now. I am overseeing the fogging operations but police insist that arresting me has become imperative. So I will surrender at the Jamia Nagar police station Sunday noon,” Khan said in the statement.
However, senior officials in Delhi Police told The Indian Express that there was ‘no need’ for Khan to ‘surrender’ and refuted claims that he was asked to do so. “There is no arrest warrant and we have not asked him to surrender. If he wants to come and sit in the police station, he is most welcome, but that is not required. As our investigation proceeds, we will decide whether there is a need to arrest him,” said a senior officer.
