A mother of two was allegedly stripped and beaten up by a group of women for having an alleged affair with a married man in Dakshin Sakuajhora village in Jalpaiguri district.

According a written complaint submitted by the victim at the Dhupguri police station, one Sandhya Roy and a few other women entered her home on Friday, overpowered her and took her to Roy’s home in the vicinity. “

They tied me to a tree, stripped me and beat me up alleging that I had an illicit relationship with her husband,” she claimed.

The victims’ husband, a fisherman, was not at home at the time of the incident and her two children were in school. When the woman’s children returned home and could not find her, they went to the nearest police outpost and lodged a missing complaint. She was later rescued by the police.

Denying all allegations, the woman then filed a complaint against several residents of the village.

The woman, in her 30s, also alleged that one Swapan had been making advances at her and passing lewd comments for the past month, but she had ignored him. Police officials confirmed that they had received the complaint but were yet to make an arrest.

“It is a very sensitive issue. We are investigating the matter,” said a senior officer.
