The Vasai police probing the murder of one of its officers has found that Constable Vinod Pardhi suffered nine injuries to his body, including one blow to his head, before he fell into the creek he was found in.
Seven months after 30-year-old Pardhi was found dead under “suspicious circumstances”, the Vasai police on Wednesday registered a case of murder. The death was being treated as suicide before that.
Pardhi, a constable attached with Vasai police station, had been suspended after a woman officer alleged he was harassing her. His body was found in a creek in Vasai on February 7. The Inspector General of the Konkan range had asked the additional superintendent of Thane Rural Police to probe the death.
His postmortem was conducted at J J hospital and a panel of forensic experts found that the constable died due to injuries sustained before his death.
“We registered the case based on the medical reports. Nine injuries have been reported on his body, including one on the head that appears to be caused by a hard blunt object. After the injuries, Pardhi had fallen into the creek,” said an investigator.
“We are also probing if there was any connection between his suspension and his murder. Kidnapping cannot be ruled out either as Pardhi went missing two days before his body was found,” a police officer said.
