CBI on Tuesday questioned Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat in connection with its inquiry into a sting operation in which he is purportedly seen trying to influence some dissident Congress MLAs.

The agency had called Rawat to appear as during his questioning on May 24, he is understood to have not answered certain queries to the satisfaction of the probe team, sources claimed.

However, Rawat had rubbished the claims saying he had fully cooperated with the agency.

CBI had registered a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) on April 29 to probe the “sting operation” purportedly showing Rawat offering bribes to rebel Congress lawmakers to support him during a floor test in the Uttarakhand Assembly.

Rawat has denied the allegation and called the video fake after it was released by the rebel Congress legislators but later admitted that he was on camera in the sting operation.

After Rawat’s victory in the floor test, the state cabinet met on May 15 and withdrew the notification recommending a CBI probe into a sting operation involving him but his plea to stop the central agency’s probe was rejected by the Uttarakhand High Court.

It was registered on the reference received from the state government (during President’s rule) and subsequent notification from BJP-led central government.

The PE is the first step during which the agency verifies the facts in the complaint received by it. During a PE, the agency can only “request” a person “to join the probe” and cannot summon him, carry out searches or make any arrests.

If verification of facts shows need of further probe, it may register an FIR or else close the PE.

The CBI had also rejected the state government’s notification withdrawing the nod for probing the case which was given during President’s rule.

HORRIBLE !!! THIS IS MORE URGENT ! THE FATHER OF ALL SCAMS ! RS 20,000 CRORE LOOTED !!! 13 PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS IN SERIOUS PROBLEM BUT CAN THE CAGED PARROT INVESTIGATE INTO THIS : MODI AS CM OF GUJARAT HAD ANNOUNCED IN 2005 THAT GUJARAT STATE PETROLEUM CORPORATION (GSPC) HAS DISCOVERED INDIA’S BIGGEST GAS RESERVES IN THE DEEP WATERS OF THE KRISHNA-GODAVRI (KG) RIVER BASIN. MODI SAID THAT DISCOVERY WAS 20 TRILLION CUBIC FEET OF GAS WORTH OVER RS 2,22000 CRORE RUPEES. HOWEVER, TILL DATE NO GAS HAS BEEN RECOVERED FROM THE BASIN SO FAR. FOR EXPLORATION WORK, GSPC HAS BORROWED OVER RS 4800 CRORE FROM THE PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;GSPC WAS INCORPORATED IN 1979, DID NOT HAVE ANY LOAN TILL MARCH 2007. HOWEVER, AFTER MODI’S ADVENTUROUS CAMPAIGN IN THE KG BASIN, GSPC BORROWED RS 19,700 CRORE IN LOAN FROM 13 PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS BETWEEN 2008 AND 2015. THE HUGE AMOUNT WAS OSTENSIBLY USED BY DUBIOUS ENIES WHOSE MOTIVES ARE QUESTIONABLE. KG BASIN SCAM IS A STORY OF GROSS MISUSE OF A STATE-RUN CORPORATION.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;THE CAG IN ITS SEVERAL REPORTS HAS HIGHLIGHTED MISUSE OF FUNDS BY GSPC. A SITTING SUPREME COURT JUDGE SHOULD PROBE INTO THE SCAM TO IDENTIFY THOSE IN THE GUJARAT GOVERNMENT WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOOT OF PUBLIC FUNDS. REALLY HORRIBLE !
