Uttar Pradesh: Ambedkar’s statue vandalised in Unnao district

An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons on various charges including promoting enmity on religious ground and injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion.

Tension prevailed in a village in Unnao district after unidentified miscreants vandalised a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar installed at Ashok Vatika Budh Vihar in Safipur police station area. The incident came to light Friday morning when Vatika’s owner Sushil Kushwaha visited the place at Devgaon village.

SP, Unnao, Neha Pandey said that the vandalised statue has been replaced with a new one. “No other statue was damaged,” she said, adding that there was no law and order problem in the area and situation was under control.

SO, Safipur police station, Hanuman Prasad Pandey said, the Vatika’s owner has stated in his FIR that on Friday morning he found the statue of Ambedkar disfigured.
