Uttar Pradesh: 90-year-old woman raped, suspect held

The old woman shouted out for help as the accused raped her, waking her daughter-in-law, who came out of her room to see Babu running away.

A 90-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour at her house in City Kotwali police station area of Hamirpur district Saturday morning, according to police. The incident reportedly occurred when the victim’s son and daughter-in-law were sleeping inside the house. The accused, Babu (24), was arrested after an FIR was lodged.

“He would be produced before court tomorrow. Medical examination of the victim has been conducted, and the report is awaited. We have collected the victim’s clothes, which would be sent for testing as well,” said Station House Officer, City Kotwali police station, K N Singh.

Babu, a daily wage labourer and a married person, lives some distance away from the victim’s house. According to the SHO, the victim’s daughter-in-law, who is the complainant in the case, told police that the accused entered the verandah of the house, where her mother-in-law was sleeping, around 2 am.

The old woman shouted out for help as the accused raped her, waking her daughter-in-law, who came out of her room to see Babu running away. The complainant further told the police that her mother-in-law, who could not speak properly, told her that the youth raped her, Singh added.
