The Class X student has suffered burns on her face and hands. Police claimed that the accused, identified as Amarjeet (24), a labourer from Faizabad, had an affair with the girl. The two had a heated argument two days ago over some issue, said a source in the police.
Amarjeet is on the run. The girl’s father, Sabhajeet Rajbhar, who runs a tea stall, has lodged a complaint against Amarjeet.
Akbarpur police station officer Ram Lakhan Patel said primary investigation revealed that Seema was returning from the fields early on Wednesday morning, when Amarjeet caught her and threw acid on her face.
Locals came running to rescue her as she screamed for help. In the meantime, the accused fled the scene. She was rushed to the district hospital, from where she was referred to Lucknow, the police officer said.
The station officer added that the girl had suffered 25 per cent burns. Her statement is yet to be recorded. “We have been told by the locals that Seema was having an affair with Amarjeet for the past four years. They had a heated argument two days ago, which appears to be reason behind the attack by Amarjeet today,” said the station officer.
