US wants Pakistan to act fast against Pathankot attack perpetrators

The US feels that time has come for Pakistan to walk the talk on the promises it made

The US feels that time has come for Pakistan to walk the talk on the promises it made – both in public and in private conversations – that there would be no discrimination in its action against terrorist networks and bring the perpetrators of the Pathankot attack to justice.

Amid Indian intelligence reports that groups and people within Pakistan planned and executed the strike on the Pathankot airbase, a senior State Department official said Pakistan should not come out with lame excuses to shield them as has been the case with the Mumbai terrorist attack.

“They (Pakistan) have said publicly that they are going to investigate. They have said publicly that they are not going to discriminate between terrorist groups. We look to see actions to back up those words,” the official added.

The official indicated that the US wants to give the civilian government time and space to act on its words and hoped that Pakistan would not repeat its past trend wherein it is seen reluctant in taking actions against terrorist groups under one excuse or the other.

“They said that they (Pakistan) would investigate it and we need to let that process go forward. But obviously we want to see that the perpetrators be brought to account (as soon as possible),” the State Department official said on anonymity.

The official also expressed a sense of satisfaction over the reaction by the Nawaz Sharif government on the first few days of the attack.

“It is not about believe. We have to take the word that they have given. They have said that they are going to investigate. Let them do that,” the official said when asked if they believe in what Pakistan is saying this time.

Senior US Government officials have been in close contact with their Pakistani counterparts in the aftermath of the attacks in Pathankot and Afghanistan’s Majar-e-Sharif urging them to take right course of action which, if they do, would not only be a great confidence building measure but would also help improve relationship with India.

Referring to the outpouring of support for India among the US lawmakers in the aftermath of the Pathankot attack, the officials indicated that in the absence of a concrete action by Pakistan against these terrorist groups, it would be a tough call for the Obama Administration to push for any new military aid for Pakistan to through the Congress.

“We understand this is a challenging time. This is a complicated relationship. We do not agree with Pakistan about everything…We look to see actions to back up those words,” the official added.

According to officials, it would become very difficult for the US Government to convince the Republican-controlled Congress to approve a sale of eight F-16s to Pakistan if Islamabad is seen as reluctant in taking action against these terrorist groups.

Over 20 lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties have come out in support of India, officials pointed out.

This is most stupid thing happening. Has Pak ever cooperated, what happened after Mumbai. The answer is simple, crush Pak or Indian leaders should start wearing bangles.

US must declare now until the culprit, including those who have been declared as international terrorists by US itself, are not handed over to India for fair trial, no aid either military or economy are extended to Pak. Or else there will be no weight for US dictat

I don't trust US in this. After all I think that just because Modi Ji met President Putin and signed Make in India MOUs, it may be possible US may have initiated Pak to conduct Pathankot and Majar- e -sheriff and I also see Navas could have gone to Sri Lanka for a tame India strategy by US. Now Navas cannot be any different stani to hand over the terrorist. Saudi once saved him from Mushaaff gallows. Now he is in between Terrorists group, ISI, US pressure and Modi Ji's. I think Navas will choose dodging India as former Pak leaders is the comfortable escape root. I have a solution to Eradicate Malnutrition, Black Money and Terror as an instrument. I cannot publish it here but I will be willing to share with Modi Ji or to any of his trusted istants.

Only Bharat can take initiative to leave Vasudeva Kutumbam = A civilized world to our children. That needs to Eradicate Black money system. Tax-Heaven is under total control of stan ( May be benami of Arabs and Vatican). They are the real PATRONs. Terrorism is a part the system needs as Money Laundering and P Notes in Commodity FandO trades. Yes We can take wind out f sail. I have researched and have solution. This cannot e published and I will be willing to share with Modi Ji or such others, BJP. I am 68 retired SE Electrical from ONGC.

Me Marathi, you are no Marathi! Instead betray a dependent mindset. The silence of MMS unfortunately gave the impression that he was acting like a Viceroy, instead of being a Roy of India. By wading into this troubled water, US would be making a mistake to ume continuity in stance from UPA to NDA. Unless there is a legal security structure in place between India and US to mean business vis-a-vis stan, these meddling statements carry no weight. PM Modi certainly does not intende to abide like a Viceroy.

If US or China intervene in an Ind-Pak war, then must be asked to lay-off or face the consequences too

Why bring US into this scene? if India has to fight its war, then it has to fight on its own instead of trusting US or China, who have directly and indirectly helped Pak and its terror policy against India and ignored its nuclear stockpile completely. All NPT and other filmsy laws are for countries that are not aligned with US not for rogue nations like Pak
