Seventeen jawans were martyred following an attack on the rear office of the infantry battalion force in North Kashmir’s Uri town. The attack by fidayeens took place early Sunday morning. Search operations are underway as there are reports about the presence of two to three terrorists inside Uri town. The injured jawans have been transported to the Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar.

In New Delhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh will hold a review meeting at 12.15 pm today that will see senior defence ministry and home ministry officials attend.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and COAS Gen Dalbir Singh will visit Uri later today to take stock of the situation and review the security arrangements.

Home Minister Singh has also briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the attack, considered to be the largest in terms of casualites, in the recent past. Track LIVE Updates on the Uri terror attack here
