Cornered by villagers, a gang of cattle thieves fired indiscriminately killing a 20-year-old girl in Kotwali Dehat police station area of Etah district early on Friday.
SHO, Dehat Kotwali police station, Rajeshwar Tyagi, said the incident took place around 3 am when some cattle thieves were trying to steal buffaloes of a farmer, Hudi Lal, at Asrauli village. The farmer woke up and raised an alarm drawing attention of other villagers, he added.
“As the thieves saw people approaching, they ran to a truck parked about 100 metres away to take away the cattle.
Finding the villagers closing in, the thieves started firing indiscriminately. A bullet hit Hudi Lal’s daughter Yashoda, who was accompanying the crowd,” said Tyagi.
In the commotion, the thieves managed to escape leaving the cattle behind. The bullet hit victim’s stomach who died of excessive bleeding.
An FIR against half-a-dozen unidentified men has been filed at Kotwali Dehat police station.
