THE CID on Monday moved court seeking custody of five of the 16 people arrested for allegedly beating up Dalits of Mota Samadhiyala village of Una taluka in Gir Somnath district. The court posted the matter for hearing after two days.
The CID, which has taken over investigation into the case from Gir Somnath police, moved an application before the magisterial court of Una and sought remand of the five persons, who were the first to be arrested. The CID sought police custody of Pramodgiri Goswami of Simar village, Ramesh Jadav of Samter village, both in Una taluka; Balvant Goswami, Rakesh Joshi from Una town and Nagji Vaniya of Gir Gadhda taluka in Gir Somnath.
“We feel their custodial interrogation necessary. Therefore, we have moved an application before the court seeking their remand for seven days,” said CID (Crime) Inspector General Shashikant Trivedi . The five were named in the FIR filed on complaint by Vashram Sarvaiya, one of the victims, on July 11. They were booked for attempt to murder and under The Scheduled Castes and The Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after they allegedly assaulted Vashram, his brother Ramesh, parents Balu and Kunvar as well as cousins Ashok, Devshi and Bechar, a relative.
