BJP MLA from Muzaffarnagar, Kapil Dev Agarwal, suffered injuries after two youths threw chilli powder in his eyes while he was holding a grievance redressal camp at his residence on Monday.

The incident took place when the MLA was talking to some residents at his house in Nai Mandi area. The MLA’s police guards chased the miscreants and even fired at them, but they managed to escape.

“Two youths — one of them has been identified as Kapil Kumar — entered the MLA’s house, while another waited outside on a motorcycle. After talking to the MLA for about 10 minutes, they threw red chilli powder at the MLA, and ran. An FIR has been lodged against three youths,” police said. The MLA was taken to a nearby hospital.

Agarwal said he knew the main accused, Kapil Kumar, and also claimed that the attack was politically motivated.
“Someone has provoked him, otherwise it is not possible for anyone to dare to indulge in such an act,” he said.
