Two volunteers of a Gau Raksha Dal were injured Saturday morning after they were shot at, allegedly by persons illegally transporting beef, on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway.

According to police, the Gau Raksha Dal had received information about a vehicle transporting beef passing through the area during the night. The volunteers, Abhishek Gaur and Harpal Singh, were waiting at the Manesar-Palwal stretch of the highway for the vehicle, along with four other volunteers.

When they spotted a “suspicious” vehicle, they tried to stop it, said police, adding that two men accompanying the vehicle shot at the Gau Raksha volunteers.

“Gaur sustained injuries on his lower abdomen, while Singh was shot in the hand. They were both admitted to Samvit Hospital on Sohna Road. They have been declared out of danger, and are recovering from their injuries,” said Ajay Kumar, station house officer of Bilaspur police station.

A case of attempt to murder against unknown persons has been registered, said police. “We are investigating the matter,” said Kumar.
