The Vasai police in Palghar on Wednesday arrested two men in Delhi and Bihar for two unrelated murders that took place in Vasai in July and April respectively.
In the first case, Ashok Yadav, a resident of Vasai, was arrested in Delhi for the murder of a 17-year-old girl on July 3. The body of the girl, identified as Ankita Tikade, also a resident of Vasai, was found in an unclad state behind a school there.
Based on the injury marks on her body, the police registered a case of murder. Probe revealed that she was having an affair with Ashok Yadav, also a resident of the same neighbourhood as Ankita. The police discovered that Yadav had been missing since the day of the murder.
When the police questioned his friends, they said that he had a major fight with Ankita as he suspected her of having an affair with his friend. Suspecting his involvement in the murder, the police eventually tracked him to Delhi and placed him under arrest.
In the second case, a man was arrested in Bihar for the murder of a man in Vasai. The body of an unidentified male, around 35 to 40 years old, had been found in a lake in Vasai in April.
He was identified as Mahendra Singh, a resident of Vasai, and a case of murder was registered at Waliv police station based on the post-mortem report.
Probe revealed that Singh was having an affair with a Bihar-based girl and the couple had recently moved to Vasai from Bihar.
The girl’s father, accompanied by relatives, reached Singh’s residence and inquired about his daughter’s whereabouts. When Singh refused to give them information, the girl’s father and relatives allegedly beat Singh to death, dumped his body and fled from there. The police arrested the girl’s father while the other accused are still on the run.
