A large number of tribals in their traditional attire staged a demonstration demanding a stop in the misuse of tribal caste certificate and encrochment. The procession was taken out by Kandhamal district Kui Samaj Samannya Samiti (KSSS), an apex body of tribal people, on the occasion of its annual day. The leaders of the tribal body met at the Coronation ground under the chairmanship of KSSS convener and secretary .
The speakers alleged that the KSSS’s 34 points charter of demands to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik abut nine years ago were yet to be fulfilled. Though KSSS was assured by the chief minister then to resolve the issue nothing changed, Kanhar said.
“Hundreds of non-tribal people, mostly belonging to a particular community have been able to get government jobs by virtue of fake ST certificates availed by them in fraudulent manner. No action was taken against them,” Kanhar claimed. He also demanded that a fast track court be set up at Phulbani to expedite land encroahment cases and return the land to the tribal families.
