India on alert: High security in Delhi, other cities after terror threat

Security has been beefed up in crowded areas such as malls, bus stops, railway stations and patrolling doubled in light of the terror threat.

A day after Gujarat was put on high alert following intelligence inputs provided by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor on a possible 26/11-style fidayeen assault, security was tightened on Monday in multiple cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Vijayawada, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Panaji in view of Mahashivratri festival.

Security has been beefed up in crowded areas such as malls, bus stops, railway stations and patrolling doubled in light of the terror threat.

On Sunday, police and National Security Guard personnel were mobilised on a massive scale in Gujarat in order to counter any possible terror attack on religious places during Mahashivratri.

Fears of an attack in Gujarat have been mounting over the last four months, sparked by the discovery of five abandoned fishing boats in Harami Nullah, a channel that snakes along the India-Pakistan border before emptying into the Vianbari Creek. The fifth boat was discovered by the Border Security Force (BSF) just last month.
