As tension prevailed at Madrasa Quadria Missarwala, near Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, following an alleged stone pelting incident during Eid prayers Tuesday, the police was forced to lob teargas shells and resort to lathicharge to disperse the miscreants—who also reportedly belonged to the local Muslim community .

Sources said the stone pelting was allegedly started by some students of the Madrasa, located in the masjid complex,at the behest of some rival groups trying to get control over the madrasa affairs. There were around 2,500 people including children participating in the morning Eid prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul -Zuha, when the incident started. This created tension and confusion among the people who ran for safety .

In a bid to bring the situation under control, the police which were already deployed around the masjid immediately swung into action and resorted to lathicharge. They were also forced to lob teargass shells to disperse the mob that later went on a rampage damaging some vehicles parked near the masjid and the Nahan-Dehradun National Highway.

Superintendent of Police (Sirmaur) Soumya Sambasivan, who also reached at the spot, after the incident told The Indian Express, “The incident is result of some rivalry between two factions of the community. Though no one was injured, I have taken the incident very seriously and appropriate action will be taken”.
