While a string of cop suicides are rocking Telangana Police, the Superintendent of Bhongir Sub-Jail in Nalgonda district, M Srinivas, went missing Tuesday night after leaving a note at home alleging that he was fed-up of harassment by senior officials. The missing Superintendent has caused a stir in the Telangana Police which is facing suicides among its junior staff who are allegedly being hounded by their seniors, or due to depression and work pressure.
In the letter he left behind before leaving home, Srinivas blamed prison’s DGP V K Singh for harassing him by frequent transfers. When Srinivas was posted as Superintendent of Adilabad sub-jail, inmates had complained against him of high-handed behavior. Srinivas was subsequently transferred to Bhongir. He was again transferred to Luxettipet sub-jail in Adilabad district last week. Srinivas stated that he was frustrated and depressed because he was being targeted. “We have recovered the note he left at his home. His mobile is switched off so we do not know his location right now. We are searching for him,’’ Deputy SP, Bhongir, Mohan Reddy said.
Srinivas’s disappearance comes less than a month after the suicide of sub-inspector B Ramakrishna Reddy shook the Telangana Police on August 17. A former Indian Army soldier and veteran of Kargil War, Reddy, 38, was posted with the Kukunoorpally Police Station in Medak district. Before shooting himself with his service revolver, Reddy told his friends that he was under tremendous pressure from his seniors to collect Rs 5 lakhs in bribes. Reddy had taken VRS from Army after he suffered bullet injury in his leg and returned to his native to join the police force. He left a note accusing the Circle Inspector and Deputy SP of the division putting pressure on him to collect at least Rs 5 lakhs as bribes to be shared among police officials.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, who is trying to purge corruption on Tuesday, strengthened the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the illegal activities of gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin who was shot dead on August 8, as names of several police officials who were allegedly paid by Nayeemuddin cropped up during investigation. An officer of the rank of Additional DGP, Anjani Kumar (Additional DG Law and Order) has now been put incharge of the SIT investigation while IG Y Nagi Reddy was the SIT chief till now.
On August 30, a 27-year-old sub-inspector K Sridhar shot himself in his head in Kerameri police station in Adilabad district. Officials said that he was in depression but his family members alleged that he was unhappy with the behavior of his seniors. Sridhar, a native of Sircilla mandal in Karimnagar, had joined as SI at Kerameri police station just two days ago before he committed suicide.

R Shiva Kumar was a constable of the Telangana State Special Police (TSSP) and was attached to Octopus. He was native of Mancherial in Adilabad district. The reason for his suicide is still under investigation. On September 11, a police constable allegedly attempted suicide by drinking kerosene. Hanmanth Reddy, attached to Karkhana police station and working at the IT wing in the office of DCP North Zone, was rushed to a private hospital where he later recovered. He was also allegedly being harassed by his seniors.
