Reacting to the controversy triggered over his picture with wanted shooter Mohammed Kaif, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tej Pratap has said that he meet so many people but don’t recognise anyone.

“1000 people click pictures with me, I don’t recognise everyone,” said Tej Pratap when asked about his photo with Kaif who was also seen standing beside RJD strongman Mohd Shahbuddin after his release from jail on Saturday.

Kaif is one of the accused in the murder of Hindustan daily’s Siwan bureau chief Rajdev Ranjan. “Police probe against the accused Mohammad Kaif) in the case of journalist Rajdev Ranjan’s murder is underway,” Siwan SP Saurabh Shah told ANI.

Ranja’s wife Asha has demanded strict action against Kaif. “The pictures show that Shahabuddin is related to Kaif and some other criminals. He was released from jail on September 10 and today is September 13,” said Asha.

“How is it that the police did not know where the culprits were? Strict action should be taken against them. Nitish Kumar did not take cognizance of the matter, that is why I had to go to Delhi. He should correct his mistake and he should make proceedings against these culprits. CBI should take up the murder probe, until then the truth will not come out,” she said.

Shahabuddin walked out of prison on bail after 11 years with much fanfare and praised party chief Lalu Prasad while making it clear that there was no love lost between him and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Shahabuddin, who is a member of the RJD National Committee, the top decision-making body of the party, and is known to be close to the RJD chief, said he never enjoyed good relations with Nitish.

Various cases against Shahabuddin were reopened and he was sent to jail after Nitish assumed power in 2005. Shahabuddin got a reprieve on Wednesday when the Patna High Court granted him bail in the case of a murder of a witness to the 2004 killing of two brothers in Siwan. Shahabuddin was received by his supporters and RJD workers. He was welcomed by RJD Lok Sabha MP from Bhagalpur, Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Manda.
