Kashmir, Kashmir unrest, Kashmir violence, Hurriyat conference, Hurriyat conference leaders, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yashwant Sinha, BJP, Kashmir curfew, Kashmir status, india news The octogenarian separatist had on September 4 shut the door on Communist Party of India-Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and other non-BJP MPs who were part of an all-party delegation on a visit to Kashmir.

A five-member delegation led by senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday met separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his residence in Srinagar — in a fresh bid at breaking a logjam after more than three months of deadly unrest in the Kashmir Valley. The team, which includes former bureaucrat Wajahat Habibullah, who has served in Jammu and Kashmir, ex-Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak, journalist Bharat Bhushan and activist Sushobha Barve landed in Srinagar and straight away drove to Geelani’s residence in Hyderpora.

Geelani, who heads the hardline faction of separatist Hurriyat Conference, agreed to meet and talk to the Sinha-led delegation. The delegation members were seen entering the highly fortified house where Geelani has been kept under detention for over three months.

The octogenarian separatist had on September 4 shut the door on Communist Party of India-Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and other non-BJP MPs who were part of an all-party delegation on a visit to Kashmir.

Sinha and his team members are also expected to meet other separatist leaders, including moderate Hurriyat head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yaseen Malik.

And after two months of detention at a guest-house-turned-jail in Srinagar, the Mirwaiz is now under house arrest at his upscale Nigeen residence. Malik has also been moved from jail to a Srinagar hospital after his health deteriorated.

Sinha confirmed to IANS that he and other “people of goodwill” will try to “meet all” during their visit to the valley that began on Tuesday.

“We came here for humanity. Our motto is to share the grievances and pain (of Kashmiri people). I hope the state of unrest will be resolved soon,” Sinha said.

Talking to reporters, the former BJP minister hinted that it was an independent initiative and that they were “not here as a part of any delegation”.

The fresh bid to break ice between separatist groups and the government comes after 108 days of unrest and shutdown that have disrupted normal life in the Kashmir Valley since the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

At least 92 persons were killed and over 12,000 injured in clashes between protesters and security forces. Police have arrested over 7,000 suspected ring leaders of stone throwers. Some have been let off. Sinha and his team are also expected to meet civil society and trade groups including the Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and the Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS).

They will call on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor N.N. Vohra.

Did these worthies keep in mind that Kashmir, Srinagar, Avantipur, Anantnag, Baramula etc are all Hindu names and that the original inhabitants of this land were raped, tortured, murdered and ethnically cleansed from their homeland by the Hurriat and its stani guests? Do they seriously believe that these are the people who can offer a solution to Kashmir? I hope the government arrests these traitors the minute they land back in Delhi. At the very least, Yashwant Sinha should be kicked out of the BJP.

Usually in autumn we close doors and windows to prevent the cold breeze to get into homes and keep them open in Summers for fresh air. Only psychotics will do the opposite....

Yashwant Sinha asked Geelani that Modi is ready to give in writing that his government will not pursue abolition of Art. 370, which was only an election propaa of BJP and will not build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and apologise in Supreme Court for demolition of Babri Masjid by BJP and company.

The Hurriyat and seperatists should realise that india cannot ever let J and K go . The stanis and JandK seperatists have one agenda intolerance to the Hindu community the agenda is Muslims and not a secular community, they have been given steriods of intoletrance and have no place for Non Muslims and greately seen in stan. In fact they should jump the Indian nation before they vanish in the Ugly evil state for what they lean.

Dear and respected Indian brothers and sisters, unfortunately we the Kashmiris and you the Indians live on separate planets. Even if we forget for a minute that Kashmir is an internationally recognised dispute, the instrument of accession was temporary till People decide. Later article 370 of Indian consution keeps Kashmir an eny unlike any other. So, in any case Kashmir is not India proper. Calling a well respected Huriyat leader a separatist leader in this light is completely erroneous on your part as Kashmir was never a part of India in true sense. Kashmiris are asking for a referendum in the w Jammu and Kashmir state which Includes POK as well. This is perfectly legitimate and democratic option. I think Indian people should not be nervous about it as before this democratic referendum, India can make a case as why J and K should join India. Who knows that the w state might as well choose to join Indian union. We need to grow up and respect people's choice. With a message of Love and hope from Kashmir. Pray for a permanent peace for Kashmir .

Jawed I am confused with Central Govts Dealing. I just want to know that do they deal with RSS and Shiv Sena with pellet guns ever in any crisis made by RSS and Shiv Sena? than why pellet guns with Kashmiri's only. And where is democracy. Now you will see that the media is also supporting central govt and now a days they stopped telling new about kashmir. It is easy to say everything which comes in your mind sitting in an AC Rooms rather facing the actual situation in Kashmir.

I thought Yaswant Sinha was a hawk. To see him now as a dove is amusing. Similarly, Geelani's sudden desire to talk is amusing too. What would these lover of humanity speak to each other? I cant believe that the Sinha team is inspired by its love for peace and humanity. It is a political move that Geelani, post-surgical strike, cannot but respect.Good job Modi. A very deft move.

Are you day dreaming? Nothing is going to be given to stan. The effort is to lure these stooges to stop spreading anarchy. The fact that they have showed preparedness to talk shows weak position of separatist.

It is a positive and constructive signal from Hurriyat. Winter is ahead when The old Geelani in warmer Delhi can reflect his change if any.
