Barely days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Mahamana Express, pictures of unkempt coaches are doing rounds on social media. In one of the photos taken by Dainik Bhaskar, empty groundnut shells and food packets are seen strewn on the floor. And others show a clogged washbasin and even a discarded beer bottle.

Anguished by the passengers’ tardiness, people took to Twitter urging others to maintain the upkeep of the train.

The Mahamana Express connects New Delhi and Varanasi, via Lucknow, in just 14 hours. The 18-coach train was praised for its redesigned, swanky interiors, part of the Railways plan to introduce 111 coaches with enhanced amenities.

Some of its features are:

Toilet: Bigger mirror, platform washbasin, controlled discharged water tap, odour control system, exhaust fan, LED lights, dustbin inside the toilet.

Ladder: Ergonomically designed Ladders for climbing up to upper berths provided in all coaches.

Side berths: Snack tables provided for side berth passengers also with innovative design side lower berth arrangement.

Windows: Windows with powered venetian blind and roller blind instead of conventional curtains.

Indians need Saudi treatment. 50 lashes on the spot for violating . They will come on line. Unfortunately these junglees are unevolved species and the only way to tame them is like how you tame animals. Just whip them on the spot.

Plant CCTV's in every berth and warn people that they will be fined if found littering. That will instill fear of cleanliness in them.

Sad indeed our public do not cooperate with g aims and ideas to help travel in comfort - tend to throw garbage too often everywhere and do not observe basic cleanliness rules ! ONE way to prevent this IS to Obtain an Undertaking from the Penger when ticket is booked THAT he would sincerely abide by strict rules laid down and FOR any violation, he would be liable for heavy penalty - tell them video of compartments would expose ALL culprits; that may help to good extent , I feel ! Maybe can try this mode ! we have baggage restrictions and any extra luggage has to be paid for eh ! Similarly these rules also can be Mandatory !!!
