Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of RJD MLA Rajballabh Yadav in a rape case. He had allegedly raped a minor girl at his residence in Bihar on February 6. On September 30, he was granted bail by the Patna High Court. The Opposition criticised the government for not presenting enough facts against the RJD MLA before the high court.

The court, however, on November 8 ordered Rajballabh to surrender so that the victim could record her statement before the trial court. The court reserved its verdict on the bail plea even as senior counsel Dushyant Dave, who appeared for Rajballav, tried to assure the bench that he would stay away from Bihar until the trial in the case is complete.
After absconding for almost a month, Yadav had surrendered in March before a chief magistrate’s court in Bihar Sharif in Nalanda and was sent to jail. He was immediately suspended by the Party.
