Referring to the Supreme Court’s observation that the Centre was sitting on recommendations of the Collegium for appointment and transfer of judges to high courts in the country, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP-ruled Centre for interfering in the judiciary.
The AAP-led government recently suffered a blow as the Delhi High Court declared that the Lt Governor has administrative control of Delhi. In a series of tweets, Kejriwal said, “Why centre not clearing names suggested by SC collegium? Does centre want BJP lawyers to be appointed as HC judges?… Shocking how centre interfering in judiciary and stalling it.” He also retweeted many articles and comments on the SC’s admonishment to the Centre.
The BJP called Kejriwal’s tweet irresponsible. Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said, “It seems AAP has not learnt its lesson despite the high court verdict. The matter is between the SC and the Centre. The CM is deliberately trying to create a misunderstanding and he picks up all irrelevant issues. Why does he not concentrate on Delhi and its problems?”
