Media mogul Subhash Chandra, who recently entered Rajya Sabha from Haryana courtesy the BJP, has suddenly become active in the ongoing intra-family tussle in Uttar Pradesh’s first family. While Samajwadi Party MP Amar Singh recently threw a lavish party to celebrate Chandra’s victory, the Zee TV owner held a lengthy meeting with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav at his Delhi residence on Wednesday. Observers say Chandra could be trying to help Mulayam resolve the ongoing crisis.

Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu, who has a penchant for peppering his speeches with rhyming words and self-made acronyms, was his usual self at the BRICS Urbanisation Forum in Visakhapatnam. He explained rural-urban migration by citing how he, too, had migrated from the Rural Development portfolio (in the Vajpayee government) to the Urban Development Ministry. He then summed up the bottom-up approach in urban planning with the words “Galli to Dilli (lane to Delhi)”, before reiterating his favourite: How Modi is an acronym for “Making of Developed India”.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani met two former Indian ambassadors and the current Indian envoy in Kabul during his two-day visit to India. While Secretary (economic relations) Amar Sinha received him at the airport, IDSA chief Jayant Prasad hosted him when Ghani addressed a gathering at the institute. The incumbent Indian ambassador Manpreet Vohra was with Ghani throughout the visit, and was present in almost all the meetings.
