7 dead, over 50 injured in road accident in Sirsa

Among the injured include over a dozen children who were also travelling in the same vehicle with their parents.

Atleast seven people were killed and over 50 injured in a head on collision between two vehicles on National Highway-9 near Sahuwal village in Haryana’s Sirsa district Tuesday. Most of the victims were returning to Fazilka after visiting a shrine in Rajasthan. The deceased include Sant Singh, Ramesh, Kulwinder, Mahender, Darbar Singh, Sarmukh and Malkit Singh, all residents of Fazilka district. Among the injured include over a dozen children who were also travelling in the same vehicle with their parents.

According to the police, one of the canters ferrying nearly 60 persons were returning from a shrine in Rajasthan, when the vehicle collided with an oncoming canter in which three persons were travelling including a woman identified as Kulwinder Kaur who too figured among the deceased. After being informed of the accident, residents from nearby villages reached the spot and rushed the injured passengers to nearby civil hospital in Sirsa. Out of the seven who died eventually, six were declared dead on arrival in the hospital.

The senior officers of police and district administration too reached the spot. A case has been registered by the police on charges of rash and negligent driving causing death. Bodies of the deceased were handed over to their kin after a post-mortem.
