In a sign of thaw between Samajwadi Party supremo chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s brother Shivpal Yadav and son Akhilesh Yadav, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s office issued a statement saying that Shivpal will be handed back his three portfolios. The official communique also said that sacked minister Gayatri Prajapati will also be reinstated in the Cabinet. The announcement comes a day after Shivpal resigned from all party posts and portfolios held by him.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Shivpal said: “Netaji (Mulayam) and Akhilesh didn’t accept my resignation. I left it to Netaji and whatever he will decide we will follow.”
Shivpal said that he will fulfill any responsibility given to him, be it ministerial or as state party chief. “If I get departments I will work on that, if I become Party Chief I will fulfill that responsibility,” he said.
The Samajwadi Party leader went on to say that everyone in the party must work together to ensure that the party wins 2017 polls and that Akhilesh becomes chief minister again.
“There are people with everyone, me, Netaji, CM. But we all should talk positive things, not negative,” Shivpal said.
Earlier today, Mulayam, Akhilesh and Shivpal meet at the party chief’s residence to dissolve the situation. According to sources, it was agreed that Shivpal would get back his key portfolios, his supporter Gayatri Prajapati would be re-inducted in the cabinet, and both Shivpal and Akhilesh will have a role in the selection of candidates for the elections.
