The special CBI court Friday rejected the bail application of Sanjeev Khanna, accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. Khanna had filed his first bail plea since his arrest in August last year.
The former husband of main accused Indrani Mukerjea, Khanna had sought bail claiming the CBI’s evidence did not prove that he was present when Sheena was murdered inside a car in Bandra on April 24, 2012. The CBI had opposed his plea stating he was an active part of the conspiracy.
It is learnt that the court in its order has stated that the statements of Shyamvar Rai and Rahul Mukerjea point towards Khanna’s involvement.
Rai, who was earlier an accused in the case but has now turned approver, had stated that Khanna was restraining Sheena by holding her while Indrani strangulated. Rahul, co-accused Peter Mukerjea’s son who was in a relationship with Sheena, had also said in his statement that he had last seen her with Indrani, Rai and Khanna when he dropped her near National College in Bandra on the day of the murder.
Indrani, Khanna and her current husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea are accused of conspiring to murder Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, with a financial motive. Her former driver Shaymvar Rai has turned approver in the case. According to CBI, Indrani, Khanna and Rai were involved in the actual murder on April 24, 2012. Sheena was strangled inside a car and her body burnt in a forest in Raigad district.
