A special CBI court on Saturday adjourned the beginning of arguments for framing of charges against former media baron Peter Mukerjea, his wife Indrani and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna who are facing murder charges for allegedly killing Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora.
Peter’s lawyer Aabad Ponda has sought time to prepare their arguments stating that the the defence had just received copies of the second supplementary chargesheet filed by the CBI on Friday. He also alleged that they had not been given statement of one of the witnesses and some other documents the prosecution was relying on. The court has now posted the case for hearing on November 15.

“We need time to prepare. But looking at the evidence submitted by the prosecution I can say that there is no case made out to even frame charges against the accused,” Ponda said, adding that a fair chance should be given to prove Peter’s innocence.
CBI Judge HS Mahajan consented to adjourn the matter but said that the statement of the said witness cannot be given at this stage when charges are yet to be framed. “This court assures that the statement would be provided to the accused once charges are framed in the case,” the court said. With regard to the CDs Peter’s lawyer had sought, court said the same could be provided by the Session Court registrar.
Sheena, 24, Indrani’s daughter from her first relationship, was strangled in a car in April 2012, allegedly by Indrani, Khanna and Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai. Her body was then dumped in a forest in Raigad.
The case came to light last year when Rai was arrested in another case. Rai later turned an approver in Sheena murder case. Peter was arrested on November 19 last year for his alleged role in the murder plot.
The CBI, in its second supplementary chargesheet, has claimed that Peter was involved in the conspiracy to murder Sheena and had deliberately attempted to mislead his son Rahul after her death. Rahul, who was in a relationship with Sheena, had been attempting to look for her since April 23, 2012, when she was allegedly murdered. A few other mails exchanged between Rahul, Peter and others form part of the chargesheet.
The agency, in a statement given by Rai, said Peter was kept informed about the location selected for disposal of Sheena’s body when conducting a recce, a day before the murder,
The chargesheet also states that Vidhie, Indrani’s daughter with Khanna whom Peter had adopted, was also dissuaded from having any contact with Rahul and Sheena. The CBI also states that Peter and Indrani were against the relationship of Sheena and Rahul.
