EVEN AS senior BJP leader Brijpal Teotia’s condition continues to be critical three days after he received multiple gunshot injuries when a group of men open fired at him and his associates, police questioned eight people Sunday.
Police said arrests are likely to be made in the next couple of days. “No arrests have been made so far. Eight people were called for questioning… We hope to make arrests in a day or two,” said Ghaziabad SSP K S Emmanuel.
Daljeet Singh Chowdhary, ADG (Law and Order) UP police, said the AK-47 recovered from Ghaziabad has been sent for forensic examination to Chandigarh. Police have maintained that personal rivalry and enmity around cases of property dispute are likely to be reasons behind the attack on Teotia.
While a woman constable from Baghpat was detained Friday, another key suspect in the case, Manoj, who is a resident of Teotia’s native village in Mehrauli, is yet to be traced. “It seems the constable and Manoj were linked to the incident but their role is still under investigation,” said Chowdhary. Police added that the number of teams working on the case have been increased.
Meanwhile, doctors at Fortis Hospital in Noida, where Teotia is undergoing treatment, said his condition is stable. “He is in a critical but stable condition. Doctors are monitoring him,” said a hospital spokesperson.
