THE UNION Public Service Commission (UPSC) has returned all the applications sent by the Haryana government for selection of state-cadre officers to IAS. Among those shortlisted by the government were the wife of a senior bureaucrat and the daughter of a state Cabinet minister.
The names were sent by the government despite the fact that there was a stay on finalising the selection by Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
The government has been directed to send a fresh proposal after the order of the tribunal is either vacated or any further order is passed in this regard.

Haryana Chief Secretary D S Dhesi said, “The applications have been returned on the ground that CAT has imposed stay.”
The Haryana government had shortlisted five names from the 16 applications that were received for the lone post. Among these were Dr Sonia Trikha, principal of the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare in Panchkula. Trikha is married to R K Khullar, Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Another shortlisted candidate was Dr Asha Sharma, daughter of Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma. She is currently working at the dispensary at MLA hostel. The other names included Dr Rakesh Talwar, an SMO posted in Raj Bhawan, Gurmeet Kaur, a senior town planner, and Parmeshwar Mehra, an officer in the Excise and Taxation Dept.
The UPSC had earlier returned three nominations including that of Dr Asha Sharma, Dr Sonia Trikha and Gurmeet Kaur and raised questions over lapses.
