Security has been beefed up and police patrolling intensified in Mizoram in view of the 70th Independence Day celebrations on Monday, with bomb disposal squad checking the venues of the main function in Aizawl on Monday.

Though no specific threats were reported, Superintendent of Police (Aizawl) Lalhuliana Fanai told reporters police patrolling was intensified in Aizawl and elaborate security arrangements were made for vital government installations. Police personnel visited hotels to ascertain that no suspected terrorists or militants were lodged there, he said.
