The Supreme Court Monday sought a reply from RJD leader Mohd Shahabuddin on petitions seeking cancellation of his bail in a murder case. A bench led by Justice P C Ghose also issued a notice to Shahabuddin on a plea asking to stay the order of bail granted by the Patna High Court.

The court agreed to list the matter on Monday for examining Shahabuddin’s response.

The bench was hearing two petitions. First petition was filed by the father of three sons, who were killed allegedly by Shahabuddin’s henchmen. While he has been given life term in the murder case of two sons, the trial is yet to commence in the murder case of the third son, who was an eye witness in the other case. The latest bail order has come in the third murder case.

Second petition has been filed by Bihar government that has also appealed against the bail order.

Calling Shahabuddin a “dreaded criminal”, “a terror” and a “menace to the society”, the Bihar government sought cancellation of bail to RJD leader in a murder case and apprehended disruption in law and order by his “sharp-shooters” if he remains out.

The state government filed a special leave petition (SLP) against the bail order by the Patna High Court and said that “irreparable injury” will be caused to the conduct of around 60 criminal cases pending against the gangster-turned-politician.
