DELHI POLICE have detained the personal secretary of former Delhi minister Sandeep Kumar in connection with leaking an “objectionable” video allegedly involving the latter. Sources said Praveen — who is Kumar’s childhood friend — was allegedly blackmailing him and threatening to destroy his public image. The AAP leader was sent to three-day police custody by a special court Monday.

Kumar was arrested after a woman alleged he had drugged and raped her a year ago.

The arrest came three days after the AAP leader was sacked following the release of the video, which allegedly showed him and the complainant in a “compromising position”.

Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Vikramjit Singh said, “Praveen has been detained based on the disclosure made by Kumar.” However, he refused to divulge more details.

The DCP added that it was too early to comment on the video as police are yet to find the “primary device” or the origin of the clip.

In the remand application filed in court by IPS officer Darade Sharad Bhaskar, ACP Sultanpuri, police said Kumar got his “childhood friend and co-accused Praveen deputed in his office from his parent department, Delhi”.

Police also pointed out that Kumar made them run around for two-three hours by not telling them Praveen’s exact address in Bahadurgarh.

On Monday evening, police said Kumar was confronted with Praveen. During the hearing, police had told the court that Kumar was not cooperating with the probe and it was necessary to confront him with his PA.

“Sustained interrogation of accused Sandeep is required to find out various other facts about the girls, whose clips and pictures were telecast by channels,” stated the remand application.

According to the application, Kumar disclosed that he has “committed similar acts” with several other girls. “He disclosed that he committed the sexual assault and recorded it as well… He also said he has done similar acts with many other girls. This needs to be investigated further,” it said.

Police pressed for a four-day remand of Kumar to make more recoveries, arrest other accused and to zero in on where the incident took place.

Sources said police have also collected call details records from Kumar’s phone as they suspect a racket behind the recording of the videos.

While police sought four days’ remand, Special Judge Poonam Chaudhary granted them three days. Kumar has been slapped with Section 7 (illegal gratification by a public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

He has also been booked under IPC sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 376 (rape) besides Section 66E (violation of privacy) and section 67A (publishing sexually explicit content) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
