Amid a feud in the Samajwadi Party, the first meeting of the newly constituted state executive on Saturday discussed preparations for the party’s 25th anniversary celebrations and the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.

“The first meeting of the executive, under state unit chief Shivpal Singh Yadav, discussed at length the strategy for making the 25th anniversary celebrations slated for November 5 a big success and a historical event,” SP spokesman Ambika Chaudhary said.

The state executive committee members have been given different responsibilities for making the event a success, he said, adding they have also been asked to start preparations for the Assembly election due early next year to ensure the party’s victory.

The meeting passed a resolution on the economic and political situation. Another resolution was passed condemning the behaviour of MLC Udayveer Singh who had made derogatory comments against party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and demanding stern action against him, the party spokesman said.

On the basis of the resolution passed in the executive, the MLC was expelled from the party.

Shivpal Yadav had yesterday convened a meeting of SP district and city unit presidents which was given a miss by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav though the former had personally invited him.

Apparently seeking to bury the hatchet, Shivpal in the meeting declared nephew Akhilesh the party’s chief ministerial face and also offered to resign from the post of state president, which was earlier held by the CM.

Akhilesh, on the other hand, held a separate meeting with district presidents and apprised them of his ‘rath yatra’ scheduled from November 3 and said that they would be kept informed about it.

Akhilesh has called a meeting of all party MLAs and MLCs on Sunday, while Mulayam has convened a meeting of party legislators, ministers and MPs on Monday.
