Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav held a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow. His remarks to the media came just a day after a war of words between chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and UP party president Shivpal Yadav, also Mulayam’s younger brother.

While asserting that the family and the party is united, Mulayam said a decision on the chief ministerial candidate will be taken after the party emerges victorious in the state elections. This confirms the fact that Akhilesh will not be named the party’s CM candidate before the crucial elections.

The party chief added that he does not attach any importance to the words of Ram Gopal Yadav, who was expelled as party’s general secretary for six years.

“Yeh main mukhyamantri pe chodta hun,” says Mulayam when asked whether Shivpal would be reinstated in the cabinet.

This makes it clear that earlier reports of Shivpal being reinstated into the state cabinet is not true. The decision rests solely on Akhilesh, the chief minister.
