A day ahead of scheduled meeting convened by ‘relieved’ RSS chief Subhash Velingkar of over 2000 Karyakartha’s, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha appointed the new officer bearers to its Goa Vibhag.
Speaking to The Indian Express – RSS spokesperson Dr Manmohan Vaidya, confirmed that the decision was taken by the Nagpur headquared organization on Saturday. “The new chief of RSS Goa Vibhag would be Lakshman Behera (Nana) and Mahesh Dhavalikar would be the Karyavaha,” Vaidya said. The much anticipated move from the RSS comes close to over 10-days after RSS-Goa Chief Subash Velingkar claimed to contest against BJP state unit in 2017 state polls over its failure to implement Medium of Instructions (MOI) in Konkani/Marati and withdrawal of grants to the English medium at primary levels.
Although, RSS central leadership sacked the dissenting leader – over 300 office bearers and karyakartha’s followed the 68-year old veteran Velingkar out of the fold, but later on they went ahead and claimed to reinstate themselves back to the RSS irrespective of Nagpur’s wishes and further declared themselves as independent ‘prant’. Velingkar further claimed that Bharatiya Basha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) with the support of over 1.5 lakhs Karyakartha’s and their family would put to power and uproot BJP for ‘cheating’ them with false promise.
Speaking to the media, BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar dissmissed any impact of BBSM’s political party casting any impact its 2017 poll prospectus, even incumbent Union Defense Minster Manohar Parrikar and Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar – both considered to be former apprentice of Velingkar tried to downplay and on several occasions in the last two week and refused to take any direct questions on Velingkar.
Among the political circle, while Shivsena is the only party that has come in support of the BBSM with Goa unit President Sudin Tamankar admitting that it will support the party in 2017 poll, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has dubbed the entire episode as BBSM-BJP pre-poll theatrics. Aam Admi Party that hopes to contest the Goa polls has decided to remain aloof over the controversy, however Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia during his recent visit said that if voted to power it will take people’s opinion and only then formulate over MOI. Even Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) – while wholeheartedly supported BBSM’s agitation over MOI during the recent months has set-aside its invitation to forge an alliance, infact at present MGP is said to be discussing seat-sharing formula with the BJP for the upcoming polls
Other detractors of BBSM say that even if the language group tries its hands in politics the ‘party’ may not last long during the polls, “Parrikar – who was here last week along with senior BJP leaders have taken stock of the situation and people are now distancing themselves from BBSM. Velingkar’s rhetoric move suggests that he probably felt that he was sidelined, which is not true. But anyway, he took a hasty decision under the aegis of MOI, which is a non-issue for people. Most importantly, the party neither has a source of funding to contest polls nor cadre base in such short time. For RSS – the leader is a liability . If they take him back and reinstate to his former post – it may set an unwanted precedence across the organization – So they will definitely keep him at a distance ,” a BJP official said.
Meanwhile, despite mixed opinion Velingkar said that BBSM is all set for the show of strength alongside 2000 Karyakartha’s at Dr. K. B Hedegewar high school at Bambolim – that is barely six kilometers away from the state capital. Speaking to The Indian Express earlier – Velingkar said that during the meeting will debate on both Sangh activities as well as the way to forward with BBSM including party name, poll strategy, campaigning and candidates, he said.
