Rs 5 lakh aid to parents of cops killed on duty: CM Akhilesh Yadav

Of the total 479 policemen who died across country between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016, 116 were from the Uttar Pradesh.

After meeting the family members of the policemen who died on duty in last one year, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Friday announced that the parents of martyred personnel will get Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance in addition to Rs 20 lakh given to the next of kin under existing rules. In a brief address on Police Commemoration Day at Lucknow Reserve Police Lines, Akhilesh also announced an increase of Rs 100 in the nutrition allowance to non-gazetted policemen.

The chief minister said the state police and its officers have played an important role in “maintaining the law and order and communal harmony” under adverse conditions and asked the officials to act against “every criminal however influential they may be”.

Of the total 479 policemen who died across country between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016, 116 were from the state. They include one additional SP, four inspectors and 16 sub-inspectors.
