After the recent remarks made by Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi on the Army’s surgical strikes, Uttarakhand BJP has decided to hold a campaign to felicitate armymen, ex-servicemen and their families from October 11 to October 25.
The campaign, named “BJP ka abhiyan-Sainik ka samman”, is significant for the BJP in poll-bound Uttarakhand, which has a large number of people who have either served in the Army, or are currently working in the national defence forces.
Under the campaign, BJP leaders of the state units will move across the state, reach villages and felicitate people connected to the army and the family of those killed in wars and firings at the borders, with garlands, shawls and mementos.
“The campaign is a reply to Congress, which has insulted the bravery of soldiers by making objectionable remarks on the surgical strikes.
Recently, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi made a highly objectionable remark. Such remarks shows their mentality, and we will tell people about that,” said Ajay Bhatt, BJP state president, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken a bold stance against terror.
BJP leaders claimed that there is at least one person from each family in Uttarakhand who is either serving in defence forces or has done so in the past.
“By making objectionable remarks on the surgical strikes, the ruling Congress party has given a chance to BJP to cash in on the situation,” said a BJP leader. On the BJP campaign, chairman of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress department of ex-servicemen Captain (retd) Balbir Singh Rawat said it was a stunt to gain political mileage.
