Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections polls due in 2017, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday said the Ram temple is the part of BJP 2014 manifesto, added that it is the party’s obligation to the people to deliver the promise.

“The Ram issue is a part of our manifesto in 2014, how can we run away from it? We have to deliver,” Swamy told reporters. Swamy said that the matter cannot be resolved forcibly, but the Supreme Court needs to take some action as the matter is pending from past six years.

“Now it’s time for the matter to be heard and disposed off and the Muslim party is also agreeable for the hearing. I am filling an application on this main matter seeking the court to issue notice to the government,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Congress Party accused the BJP for selling the name of Lord Ram to siphon off a victory in Uttar Pradesh.

“The Congress has nothing to do with the BJP constructing a museum there (Ayodhya), or the Samajwadi party organising things for the Ramayana mela. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is selling the name of Ram in the wake of coming UP polls,” said Congress leader D.P. Singh.

Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar, on the other hand, asked the BJP-led Central government to intensify its efforts to construct Ram temple in Ayodhya instead of giving ‘lollipop’ (Ram museum) to please the people, who are demanding the construction of the temple.

“It’s a big mistake; effort should be made to construct the Ram Mandir (temple); this “lolipapi” (handing over Ramayana Museum as lollipop to please the people who are demanding the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya) won’t work. People ask when will be the Ram Temple constructed? This (Ramayana Museum) is a lollipop, it doesn’t have much importance, and thus, they should make positive effort. I would have said this had I been there. It’s good that I did not go there,” Katiyar told reporters.

If BJP carries Ram Mandir issue in upcoming elections this issue will backfire and BJP will be decimated in UP election with no 3 Spot far behind from SP and BSP...

Swamy can take over as Home Minister, instead of demanding for FM. If it was manifesto, why BJP is sleeping for 2 and half yrs.? suddenly, it came to their mind that any day CEC can declare the date of UP-election.

When all your strategies fail; lt;br/gt;where you don't have solutions for eliminate poverty; to give women their basic rights; to provide jobs for the youth; to punish the criminals; to reduce the prices; to bring back the black money; to unite the nation on true national values; to bounce back the falling rupee.........you are left with only one option: RAM TEMPLElt;br/gt;And yes, UP elections are across the corner....

We have to dig out his criticisms about demolition of Babri Masjid at that time. Notorious turncoat and lobbyists. His Janatha party views are definitely different from his current policy. Mixing religion with political parties poll manifesto is highly dangerous.

And this temple, mention is beginning now and will soon become aggressive as UP elections are nearer and later it will be Gau, Beef, Pak, China and again a repeat. Feku will ask you to sweep the streets and build toilets, and then show some yoga moves to put you to sleep

I think Hindutva is a fruit of tamo gun, it is an ugly political ideology emanated from misunderstood or the emergence of arrogance that blinds reason. Unlike sato gun, that seeks to reconcile and adapt, tamo gun masquerades as reason when it clearly is not. This mandir / masjid is a by-product of tamo gun that has swa people from Ram (rather than bring them close to the deity) - because you are swa from bhakti and into stones and structures that people call temple. Ram needs to be in your heart, and if he is in there, I think you will probably disregard blind arrogance and learn to respect factors. I think if Tulsidas were alive, he would probably elect not to build a temple.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;I am telling you, this idea is so wrong in so many ways - and the muslims too, they are led into conflict pointlessly.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;At the core of it, you want to win for yourself - don't drag your deities into your arrogance and egos.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;That's my take on this. I think even Ram himself will probably not want a temple after all this (and probably Mohammed too, since he was a leader of men).lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Let reason prevail, not all victories are worth having.

India needs to decide whether it wants development and growth or mandirs and masjids. While both sides can be covered, its' clear that there is sufficient space for only one path. Ayodhya is a dead issue, I say, both parties should pull back and cease wanting to build anything in that spot. Both the parties should willingly bury this issue for the good of India. Both should bury this for good.

The central tenet to Hinduism is the recognition and rejection of tamo gun. That is what this movement has descended into, madness and arrogance masquerading as bhakti. I am sorry, I don't see this for the sake of Ram, rather, it is a political movement that has hijacked religion. Aim for sato gun, if not possible, rajo but don't descend into madness. Muslims have their rights too, and it has become a matter of honour and pride for them too. Be realistic and learn to respect all.

bjp cannot just say the modiji never promised temple. the promise is implicit. and moreover if we dissect what modiji explicitly promised it doesn't either help bjp.lt;br/gt;Ram temple movement is one of the reason the bjp is what it is, modiji has become from humble rss worker to pm, the contribution of the temple movement in uniting awaking and consolidating hindus cannot be underestimated. if bjp doesn't do anything concrete about temple, 370 and ucc then it will be forgotten very quickly. no amount of tv talks, fact spinning and attention diversion techniques will help it. it has to deliver what it promised.

what growth without honor. it is like getting 6ft height without decent job. besides there is no relationship between the economy and this pseudo-secularism. there may be short term disturbance from islamic state supporters and citizens but we can crush them like china or israel and continue. all it needs is strong resolve.

With the development agenda not gaining much momentum other than chest thumping, keeping alive the surgical strike and mandir issue wouldn't be a bad idea at all for BJP to gain votes in poll bound UP.
