Hours after Samajwadi party leader Ram Gopal Yadav was reinstated into the party on Thursday, Shivpal Yadav said the decision was taken by Mulayam Singh Yadav. “The decision to reinstate Ram Gopal Yadav is taken by Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) and we will always support his decision,” Shivpal was quoted as saying to news agency ANI. Ramgopal was expelled from the party nearly a month back. The party statement said his expulsion stands annulled immediately. He will continue to be the party’s Rajya Sabha leader, its general secretary, spokesperson and member of the central parliamentary board, the statement signed by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, added.
In an interview to news agency ANI, Ram Gopal was quoted as saying, “Yeh toh hona hi tha. Party mein wapsi hai Netaji ki kripa hai. Netaji kabhi mere khilaaf nahi the (This had to happen. My return to the party is thanks to Netaji. Netaji was never against me).”
A strong supporter of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Ram Gopal was expelled on October 24. His expulsion was seen as a retaliation for the sacking of Shivpal Yadav, Mulayam’s younger brother and Akhilesh’s rival, from the state cabinet. At a press conference, Shivpal had accused Ram Gopal of trying to divide the party at the behest of the BJP.
