Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter on Wednesday to hit out at the Modi government after the Supreme Court announced that ousted Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had won the trust vote.
Rawat is set to resume power in Uttarakhand with the Centre saying it would revoke President’s Rule in the state later on Wednesday.
Rahul’s statement on his official Twitter account said, “They did their worst. We did our best. Democracy won in Uttarakhand”.
Launching a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, another tweet said, “Hope Modiji learns his lesson”. Adding that the people of India will not tolerate “the murder of democracy”.
Rawat won 33 votes against 28 of the BJP. The magic figure was 31.
The floor test was held after a bitter political battle that lasted over a month with the Centre imposing President’s Rule on March 27 after nine Congress MLAs voted with the BJP in the House on the budget-related Appropriation Bill on March 18.
