Rahul Gandhi will soon replace his mother Sonia Gandhi as the president of Congress, according to senior leader Ambika Soni. “We know that Rahul Gandhi is going to become the Congress president soon, but I cannot provide you any further details,” said Soni.
Rahul, who currently campaigning for his party in Punjab for the assembly elections due next year, has a poor track record as the party has lost most of the state elections besides the 2014 Lok Sabha elections under his leadership.

Recently, Rita Bahuguna Joshi quit Congress and joined the BJP saying the party was not happy with the performance of Rahul Gandhi. She said the Congress has a leadership problem since Rahul is “not acceptable to the people of the country and is unwilling to listen to people in the party. Mrs (Sonia) Gandhi, whether she agreed with you or not, at least heard you out”.
Rahul is currently the vice president of Congres party and the Chairperson of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India. Under his leadership, the Congress suffered its worst ever performance in 2014 Lok Sabha elections and won only 44 seats compared to 206 seats won previously in the 2009 general election
