Continuing with his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Monday termed him a “selfie-taking” and “promise-making machine” whose “core competence is to create hatred” among citizens.
“Narendra Modi made different promises…of Rs 15 lakh in bank accounts of the people, fair price for farmers, employment to two crore and many others… He is a machine that takes selfies and makes promises,” Rahul said addressing a gathering in Orai of Jalaun district.
Accusing PM of spreading communal disharmony among the people, Rahul said, “Modi’s core competence is to create hatred among citizens…. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christians used to live peacefully in the country.”
“During this yatra, I saw mandirs alongside mazars and this is how people live here…but he (Modi) comes and makes Hindus fight with Muslims. In Haryana he pitted Jats and non-Jats against each other…We were in government for 10 years but there were no riots,” the Congress leader said during the roadshow as part of his ‘Deoria-to-Dilli kisan yatra’.
He alleged that ‘acchhe din’ have come only for the PM and his industrialist friends. “He (Modi) says he will bring development…yes, he will do it and bring ‘acchhe din’ but it will only be for himself and his 12 to 15 industrialist friends. The weak and poor will suffer as there will be riots and fights…and the country which has to progress will lag behind,” Rahul said, adding that the Congress and its leaders will not allow this to happen as this country belongs to everyone, irrespective of their religion, caste and class.
Party sources informed that Rahul will undertake a road show in Lucknow on September 23 — the 16th day of his yatra before taking a two-day break. The next phase, which is expected to start from September 26, will cover the districts in western UP and is likely to conclude on October 2 in Delhi, where Congress is expected to organise a big agitation over farmers’ issues.
Meanwhile, different teams of party workers have already started working on crowd mobilisation and other logistics for the road show in Lucknow, which the Congress plans to convert into a show of strength in the poll-bound state.
There would be no khat sabha in Lucknow. Instead, Rahul would address a khat sabha in Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi before arriving in Lucknow.
The lone Congress MLA from Lucknow — Rita Bahuguna Joshi (Lucknow Cantonment)— would be present during the road show, whose exact route is yet to be finalised.
