Amid uncertainty over former BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu’s entry into the Congress, his wife and Amritsar East MLA Navjot Kaur joined the party on Monday. Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh said he has neither met the cricketer-turned-politician nor spoken to him. Sidhu’s wife, on the other hand, said they are soulmates and he has to follow his soul.

Besides Kaur, Jalandhar Cantt MLA and former India Hockey captain Pargat Singh, who was earlier with the Akali Dal, joined the Congress. It is known that there is no love lost between Captain and Sidhu and sources in the party said the former cricketer wants a prominent role. “Mrs Sidhu is here. If Mrs Sidhu is with us, you think Mr Sidhu is not going to be with us…I have not met him so far….I have not had a talk with him…let him come from Mumbai,” Amarinder said.

“We are one soul and two bodies. A body can’t live without a soul. He has to follow the soul, otherwise he does not exist. Let’s see when he comes,” Kaur said. Amarinder, meanwhile, attacked the Akali Dal government over the Nabha jailbreak, alleging that the state government was behind the incident and that it was aimed at provoking tension in the area ahead of the elections.

He said those who escaped hail from western Punjab, a Badal stronghold. Arguing that the law and order situation in the state has broken down, he reiterated his demand for dismissal of the Akali government, imposition of President’s rule and the model code of conduct.
