Congress MLA Tarlochan Singh on Tuesday threw a shoe at the treasury bench in the Punjab Assembly, claiming it was aimed at SAD MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha. Reports also suggest that the Congress MLA intended to hit Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia. The BJP brought the issue to Speaker Charanjit Atwal’s notice, in the House that has seen complete chaos but has managed to pass 12 Bills in about half hour.

Congress MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha are protesting what they term as impartial behaviour by the Speaker of the House. MLAs hurled papers and books at the Speaker and additional security personnel were called-in to ensure proceedings continued and that MLAs do not reach the Speaker’s chambers.

Speaker Atwal suspended Zero Hour and Question Hour following the ruckus in the House. Atwal requested the protesting MLAs to go back to their seats and said that he wanted to run the House smoothly. The assembly was adjourned for 15 minutes following the chaos. More details are awaited.
