Punjab Congress manifesto promises free canteens, power quota

Punjab Congress have included freebies like cheap canteens on the lines of ‘ amma canteens’ in Tamil Nadu, free power and reservation for SC and women in its manifesto for 2017 assembly elections.

Former chief minister and head of Congress manifesto committee Rajinder Kaur Bhattal Tuesday said the crop insurance and loan waiver policy, regularisation of ad hoc or contractual employees, upgradation of education and health systems, free power and old age and widow pension were included in the manifesto was ready and it would be presented to the high command in Delhi next week.

In a statement issued here today, Bhattal said that before the high command puts its stamp on the manifesto, former prime minister Manmohan Singh will review the document before placing it before Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

She said the manifesto have been prepared by a committee headed by her and convened by Manpreet Singh Badal, after extensive discussions with a cross-section of people from every walk of life spread over months with captains of industry and commerce at various business hubs throughout Punjab.
