Pune: 137 recruits of Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre pledge to serve the nation

A passing out parade (POP) and an oath-taking ceremony of the 137 recruits of the Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre (MIRC) was held on Monday at the Akhaura Drill Square in Ahmednagar. The parade was reviewed by Lieutenant-General Jagbir Singh, General Officer Commanding (Dakshin Bharat Area). Keeping with the age-old traditions, the recruits were administered the oath of allegiance and devotion to duty by religious teachers.

Recruit Pralhad Sarjerao Shinde was awarded the General Sundarji Gold Medal (best overall recruit), recruit Satyendra Singh received the General Sundarji Silver Medal and Recruit Yogesh received the General Sundarji Bronze Medal.

Speaking on the occasion, Gen Singh congratulated the recruits and urged them to perform their duty with honesty and devotion. After the ceremonial POP, the parents of young soldiers were awarded Gaurav Padak (mementos) for motivating their wards to join the Indian Army.

The POP marks the end of recruits’ basic military training and the beginning of their ‘Young Soldier’ life. The recruits will now be undergoing their Technical Military Training in advanced weaponry and equipment before joining their respective combat units.
